Walking Coaching in Nature
space to hear yourself thinK
Career, leadership and life coaching while walking outdoors, in Norwich, or remotely by phone from your own favourite nature spot. For when you need movement, perspective and space to think differently.
Approach.
Coaching does not have to happen sitting still on a video call.
Sometimes the clearest conversations happen when you are outside, moving gently, and away from the noise of your desk, inbox and day-to-day responsibilities.
Walking Coaching in Nature is a form of walk and talk coaching: focused career, leadership and life coaching while walking outdoors. We can walk together in Norwich, or work remotely by phone while each walking in our own local natural space.
It can be especially useful when you are navigating a transition, carrying a big decision, feeling stuck in your own head, or trying to understand what you want next.
This is not a casual walk or a wellbeing chat. It is purposeful coaching in a setting that can help you think more freely, speak more honestly and reconnect with what matters, what is true, and what feels next.
What is walking coaching?
Walking coaching is a focused coaching session that happens while we walk, not because walking is the point, but because movement can create the conditions for a different kind of conversation.
Rather than sitting opposite each other on a video call, we walk and talk. If we are meeting in person, this may be in or around Norwich, in a quiet outdoor space that feels suitable for the work. If we are working remotely, we each walk in our own local area while speaking by phone or audio.
The coaching itself remains focused, confidential and purposeful. We are not simply going for a walk. We are creating a different kind of thinking environment, one that can feel more spacious, grounded and natural.
You do not need to be especially fit, fast or outdoorsy. The pace is gentle and led by what feels comfortable. We can pause, sit, slow down or adapt the session at any point.
WHO IS WALKING COACHING FOR?
Walking coaching may suit you if you are in a period of change, pressure or uncertainty and need space to hear yourself think.
You might be navigating redundancy, promotion, leadership decisions, a career crossroads, a return to work, a loss of confidence, or the quiet sense that the way you have been working no longer fits.
It can also be helpful if you are screen-fatigued, easily overstimulated, neurodivergent, or someone who simply thinks better when moving.
You do not need to arrive with a perfectly formed question. Sometimes the work begins with a feeling: something needs to change, but I am not yet sure what.
Why walking and nature?
When we are busy, under pressure or trying to make a significant decision, it is easy to keep circling the same thoughts.
Walking can gently shift that. Being outside changes the quality of attention. Movement can help you process as you speak. Nature gives us something wider to be in relationship with than the problem itself.
There is something about walking that can make a conversation feel less forced. You are not trying to perform clarity. You are giving it room to arrive.
This does not mean every session becomes profound or poetic. Sometimes the value is much more practical: you find the words for something, make a decision, notice what you have been avoiding, or leave with a clearer next step.
Walking side by side can also feel less exposing than sitting face to face. For some clients, that makes it easier to speak honestly, especially when exploring confidence, identity, uncertainty, self-trust or change.
How it works?
In-person walking coaching in Norwich
We meet in a suitable outdoor location in or around Norwich. We agree the route, pace and practical details in advance, including weather, accessibility, privacy and what would help the session feel safe and easy to engage with.
The session is structured but spacious. We may begin by clarifying what you want from the session, then walk with the question, challenge or decision you are bringing. I will coach you as we move, offering questions, reflections, challenge and space to think.
Remote walking coaching
Remote walking coaching works well if you are not based in Norwich, or if you prefer to walk in your own familiar environment.
Instead of joining a video call, we speak by phone or audio while each walking in our own local natural space. You might walk in a park, woodland, quiet path, garden or somewhere else that feels safe and appropriate.
This can be a powerful alternative to another screen-based conversation. You still receive the same quality of coaching, but with more movement, space and autonomy.
What we might explore?
Walking coaching can support many of the same themes as online or in-person coaching, including:
career direction and “what next?”
confidence and self-trust
leadership presence and decision-making
navigating redundancy, promotion or transition
preparing for difficult conversations
understanding your values, strengths and motivations
what is no longer working
the role you may have outgrown
the decision you keep circling
the difference between what looks good externally and what feels right internally
stepping out of overthinking and into action
The session does not need to be perfectly tidy. You can arrive with a clear topic, a half-formed question or a sense that something needs to change.
We will find the thread together.
Your Questions, Answered
-
No. Walking coaching can happen in person in Norwich, or remotely by phone. If we are walking in different locations, you choose a favourite nature spot that feels safe and supportive for you, a park, beach, forest, woodland path, riverside walk or even a quiet garden. The only practical requirement is that you have enough phone signal for the session.
-
I coach in nature all year round, so the session does not depend on good weather. We will agree a sensible plan in advance, including the route, conditions and your comfort level. If the weather feels unsuitable on the day, we can adapt the route, pause somewhere sheltered, switch to a phone or online session, or reschedule where appropriate.
-
Yes. The coaching remains confidential. For in-person sessions, we choose routes with privacy in mind. For remote sessions, you choose a place where you feel comfortable speaking. If either of us feels the setting is not private enough, we pause or adapt.
-
Wear whatever helps you feel comfortable and weather-appropriate. You do not need specialist outdoor gear. Comfortable shoes, layers and waterproofs are usually enough.
-
That is completely fine. We can pause, sit, slow down or stop. Walking coaching is not about distance or fitness. It is about creating a supportive thinking space.
-
Yes, for many people it can. Some clients find walking side by side or speaking by phone less intense than sitting face to face on a video call. We can adapt the pace, structure and environment so the session feels supportive rather than overstimulating.
-
Yes. Walking coaching can support the same depth of work as online or in-person coaching. We might explore career direction, leadership questions, confidence, values, identity, self-trust, life transitions or the question of what needs to change. The movement and natural setting simply create a different kind of space for reflection, insight and forward movement.
