JAsmiNe’s Success Story: Masking to Self-Trust
How coaching helped a later-diagnosed ADHD professional feel seen, process in her own way, and build deeper confidence in herself.
Challenge
Jasmine came into coaching as a deeply capable, self-aware professional.
On the surface, she was functioning well. Underneath, she was navigating a later ADHD diagnosis and the challenge of making sense of thoughts and emotions that did not always follow a linear path.
For years, she had adapted to environments where she felt the need to mask or present a more acceptable version of herself in order to be understood.
What was missing wasn’t effort or insight. It was a space where she could think freely, process at her own pace, and be met without judgement, pressure, or expectation.
There was also a deeper, often unspoken layer.
As someone from a global majority background with a hidden disability, she had rarely seen herself reflected in professional spaces. That absence had quietly shaped what felt possible, and what didn’t.
ACTION
We began by removing pressure, not adding more.
Instead of trying to structure or “fix” her thinking, the focus was on creating a space where she could slow down and process in a way that worked for her.
This included:
Allowing space for non-linear thinking without forcing premature clarity
Using reflective questions to help her access thoughts and feelings she hadn’t yet been able to articulate
Exploring patterns, needs and emotional responses at a deeper level, while maintaining psychological safety
Letting sessions flex between emotional processing and insight-building, depending on what was most useful
This wasn’t surface-level work.
It was about helping her understand herself more fully, without overwhelm.
Over time, this created something more sustainable than quick answers: self-trust.
Representation also played an important role.
Seeing someone with shared lived experience operating confidently within this space helped shift what felt possible, making growth feel not just aspirational, but real and attainable.
RESULTS
The shift wasn’t just in what she understood. It was in how she experienced herself.
She moved from:
Masking and self-editing → to showing up as herself without pressure to perform
Struggling to organise and express her thoughts → to finding language for her inner world
Surface-level self-awareness → to a deeper, more integrated understanding of her needs and emotions
She left sessions not just with insight, but with reflections that continued to unlock clarity long after the conversation ended.
More importantly, she experienced what it felt like to be fully seen and understood in a professional space.
That shift alone changed what felt possible, both personally and professionally.
This wasn’t about becoming someone new.
It was about finally having the space to understand who she already was, and building the confidence to live from that place.
“Working with Antonia over the past year has honestly been one of the most monumental and life changing experiences I’ve had. As a later diagnosed ADHD-er, I cannot explain how rare it is to step into a space and feel genuinely listened to, respected, understood and safe enough to just fully exist as yourself without masking. I have never felt judged, rushed or like I needed to “perform” a version of myself in order to be understood.
What makes Antonia so special is that the work never feels surface level. She asks questions that stay with you long after the session ends and somehow help you access parts of yourself you could feel, but had never quite found the language for.
Antonia has a rare ability to make you feel deeply seen. suddenly makes things feel possible, real, reachable. I know the work we’ve done together will stay with me for the rest of my life.
I cannot recommend her enough!”
